Repentance, Forgiveness Healing & Restoration ServiceÂ
From the very start of meeting together as Time4Change, it became clear that the issue of racism, repentance, forgiveness, and healing is not something we should rush into. We needed to spend time in prayer, building a better relationship and educating ourselves, and having a better understanding of its history, impact, significance, meaning, and what it would mean to repent of which would be impactful. We have come to understand that racism is not just systemic within our country and culture, but at its core is deep-seated hatred which is spiritual and can only be effectively addressed by the Church of Jesus Christ.
Many of you have been on a journey with us as churches praying, thinking, and talking about how to respond to the issue of racism that many have quietly left untouched and unaddressed within the church and city. We have passed some big milestones and targets in the form of discussion, citywide online prayer, and the launch of the ‘Birmingham Churches Anti-Racism Charter’.
By far the biggest thing on our agenda is a Churchwide event that would address historical and contemporary racism and lead to repentance, healing, forgiveness, and restoration.
Sunday October 17th has been identified by Time4Change as a day when the church of Jesus Christ, Black, White, and Asian Christians from across the city and region will put a stake into the heart of the evil of racism. It is a day that aims to highlight the historical and contemporary racism within the church, seek forgiveness from God and each other which will bring about significant changes within our attitudes that will bring about lasting transformation.
We ask you to join us and God’s church on this day as hundreds of churches together focus their morning services to bring about a united front in the war on racism, and then later that same day, we will call the churches, the people of God together for a joint act of repentance and unity across Birmingham and surround.
Racism has to end, unity needs to grow. It's a big ask but together - with God’s guidance - we can do it.
